Chief Minister launches ‘Bijli Bill Bhughtaan Samadhan Yojana 2026
Over Rs 757 crore relief for 28.42 lakh consumers
Raipur// Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai on Thursday launched the Bijli Bill Bhughtaan Samadhan Yojana 2026 from the auditorium of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Medical College Hospital in Raipur. On the occasion, he distributed certificates to beneficiaries and urged consumers to take maximum advantage of the scheme.
The Chief Minister also transferred Rs 8.79 crore subsidy to 2,931 beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana.
Shri Sai said electricity has become a basic necessity of life. However, many families are unable to pay their power bills on time due to financial difficulties, causing surcharges to accumulate and increasing the total outstanding amount. To address this issue, the state government has introduced the Samadhan Yojana to provide significant relief.
Under the scheme, relief will be provided to low- and middle-income households and agricultural consumers who have been unable to clear their electricity dues for a long time. A total of 28.42 lakh consumers across the state will benefit, receiving relief worth over Rs 757 crore.
Shri Sai said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, electricity has reached nearly 18,000 villages across the country since 2014, bringing light to areas that had remained in darkness since Independence. He added that around 30,000 MW of electricity is being generated in Chhattisgarh using the state’s own resources, and the government is committed to ensuring uninterrupted power supply.
The Chief Minister noted that many consumers could not pay their electricity bills during the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to increased dues. The Samadhan Yojana has been introduced keeping these difficulties in mind.
He also said public interest in the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana is steadily increasing in the state, with around 36,000 people already enrolled. He described the involvement of women’s self-help groups as solar panel vendors as a positive initiative.
Consumers have been urged to conserve electricity and avoid unnecessary domestic usage.
Under the scheme, three categories of consumers have been identified—inactive consumers as of March 31, 2023, active single-bulb connection holders, and active non-government domestic and agricultural consumers. They will receive 100% waiver on surcharge and up to 75% rebate on the principal outstanding amount.
Consumers must register to avail the scheme and pay at least 10% of the outstanding amount at the time of registration, while the remaining amount can be paid in instalments without additional surcharge in the following months. The scheme will remain in force till June 30, 2026.
Among those present were Raipur North MLA Shri Purandar Mishra, Raipur Mayor Smt Meenal Choubey, District Panchayat President Shri Naveen Agrawal and Energy Department Secretary Dr Rohit Yadav, along with officials and electricity consumers.
